How to use powerful timer sets using Google Assistant/Siri/smart speakers, etc.

Timer operation using voice control is more efficient than manual operation

With the spread of smartphones and smart speakers in recent years, mechanisms that allow systems to be operated by voice are becoming more widespread.

It’s very convenient because you can operate your smartphone even when you can’t take your hands off it, such as when you’re on the move, but in reality, as of this writing, most operations performed by voice can be input more quickly by touching the smartphone directly.

However, there are some operations that can be performed more quickly by voice input than by manual operation, one of which is “timer operation.”

  • “Hey Google, let me know in an hour.”
  • “Hey Siri, set a timer in 3 minutes”
  • “Alexa, set an alarm for 3:00 p.m.”

This is an operation like…Rather than launching and setting a clock/timer app on your smartphone, voice input is highly recommended as it is a more efficient way to operate, as it can be operated quickly, and since it is a common and simple operation, there is almost no chance of setting errors.

Furthermore, setting an alarm by voice not only allows for quick input, but also has a powerful effect on task management and encouraging one’s own actions.

By saying it out loud and committing to it, it becomes easier to act on the set time.

By saying out loud what you want to do and what you need to do, you will be able to get started on things better, and you will be able to concentrate even after you have started.
By setting a timer using voice commands, it becomes surprisingly easy to get started.

For example, if you say “I’m going to do some office work for the next 25 minutes, so set a timer,” your iPhone or Android smartphone will set a timer named “Office Work.”

In this example, 25 minutes is a perfect match with the Pomodoro Technique, which uses a timer to manage your time, and you should be able to get more content and focus more time than if you just do it based on your mental will.

Partner
The Pomodoro Technique is a powerful method that can sometimes solve the problem for those who are having trouble getting started, so please give it a try.

Of course, you can just set the timer without saying anything, but this method will make the timer setting more efficient, and you can expect a synergistic effect by saying it out loud and encouraging action.

Schedule actions when things are slow.

Sato (temporary)
I know that the method of setting a timer by voice when starting a task is powerful, but there are many cases where the process gets so slow that you don’t even get to that stage in the first place.
Partner
In that case, try reserving the action itself.

However, sometimes deciding to “work for 25 minutes now” requires a certain amount of energy. In such a case, decide to start working in 5 minutes and set a timer. You should feel that it is much easier to move compared to “right now”.

Even when things don’t go well

Of course, this effect is not universal. For example, if you have gotten into the habit of setting an alarm and then reflexively turning it off when it goes off, it may be difficult to correct it using this method alone.

Sato(tentative)
If you press the alarm clock early, you can be confident!
Partner
Um, are you awake after pressing the button quickly?
Sato(tentative)
I tend to fall asleep twice after all…My fast pressing technique has improved to the point where I unconsciously press while sleeping.

At times like this, you will need a little more effort.
