We all have an understanding of our own personalities, and while that’s generally a good thing, sometimes these traits turn into biases that prevent us from changing our perspective.
Everything has both good and bad aspects.
This blog encourages you to let go of your negative biases and move forward in life.
Instead of saying “I can’t do it,” you should adopt the mindset of “I might be able to do it.”
Have you ever said the phrase “I can’t do it”?
“I can’t do it” has two possible meanings: “I can’t” or “I don’t want to.”
When this phrase pops into my mind, I reflect on the situation:
- Do I have a solution to overcome this challenge?
- Can I really not do it?
- Do I simply not want to do it?
We often feel that trying something new is difficult.
However, I’ve come to realize that new challenges can feel like a fun game when I choose to view them with excitement.
Of course, there are times when I refuse to try something because I’ve had bad experiences or I simply don’t like it.
For example:
I’ve had negative experiences in the past and don’t want to repeat them, like running a full marathon, eating bad meals, etc.
I don’t want to try activities like bungee jumping or watching horror movies.
But when it comes to things I’ve never experienced or considered before, I think about it and might decide to give it a try.
Thinking about something new is essentially an experiment
If you want to try something new, it’s important to approach it with a positive mindset. Trying something while having a negative outlook will lead to a very different experience.
Over the past few years, I’ve tried a lot of new things, and now many of them have become useful and convenient in my life.
Of course, many things I tried didn’t last, but some of them have been truly great.
There were times when I thought it was too early for me or that I didn’t have the confidence, but after trying new things often, I found that trying them became much easier.
Set a Time to Decide When to Stop
If you try something and it works for you, you should continue. But if you feel it’s not right for you, you can stop at any time.
Continuing is great, but if you have a bias that you need to keep doing something just because you started, it can make it hard to take that first step.
Enjoy Different Perspectives
If you want to change your mindset, you absolutely can.
I once thought I could easily change when I had new experiences, but after going through similar experiences, I realized it wasn’t about timing or my own limitations.
When your mindset shifts, your world shifts too. This realization has been a fascinating experience for me.
Practice Change
Is a small change really a change?
Big changes are rare. However, if you practice making small changes over time, you’ll be prepared for bigger challenges because you’ve already practiced on a smaller scale.
